Vibration Dampening Pads
Stockwell Elastomerics manufactures vibration dampening pads and shock absorbing pads to specification.
Vibration Dampening Pads
A vibration dampening pad is used to absorb mechanical energy for overall system protection. As an example, if a fan in a housing is directly mounted to the chassis, the vibration generated by that fan can, over time, loosen fasteners and other connection points, causing a system failure. Using a vibration dampening pad can isolate the vibration source and the energy is dissipated as low level heat. Contact Us for further assistance with custom vibration dampening pads.
Shock Absorbing Pads
Mechanical shock absorption is thought of as an independent event as compared to being continuous like vibration dampening. An example of shock absorbing is what happens when a cell phone is dropped. Within handheld devices there are resilient foam pads, commonly urethane, that are design to absorb the impact energy by controlling the deceleration. "Ruggedizing" is becoming much more common, as more and more devices are becoming portable, such as GPS devices, cell phones, handheld scanners, portable instruments and sensors.
