The Technical Manufacturing Associate – Die Cutting is responsible for the setup, operation, and optimization of die cutting presses used to manufacture custom elastomer gaskets and pads. This role is critical to scaling production from prototype to volume—ensuring consistent part quality, tight tolerances, and efficient material utilization.
You will work from engineering drawings, job travelers, and production schedules to deliver repeatable, high-quality components for demanding OEM applications.
Core Responsibilities
Die Cutting Press Operation
- Set up and operate die cutting presses to produce rubber and silicone gaskets
- Install, align, and secure steel rule dies or custom tooling
- Adjust press settings (pressure, stroke depth, alignment) to meet part requirements
Material Loading & Utilization
- Load sheets or rolls of elastomer materials into presses
- Ensure correct material orientation (grain direction, adhesive backing, etc.)
- Optimize nesting and layout to reduce scrap and maximize yield
Process Monitoring
- Monitor press operation during production runs
- Identify and correct issues such as:
- Incomplete cuts
- Material tearing or deformation
- Die wear or misalignment
- Perform in-process checks to maintain consistency across batches
Inspection & Quality Control
- Inspect finished parts using:
- Calipers and gauges
- Templates or fixtures
- Visual inspection for edge quality and defects
- Verify compliance with:
- Engineering drawings and tolerances
- Customer specifications
- Internal AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality standards
- Separate conforming parts from scrap and document results
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance including:
- Press lubrication
- Tooling inspection and minor adjustments
- Cleaning and debris removal
- Ensure safe operation of presses and guarding systems
Tooling Awareness
- Recognize signs of die wear (edge dulling, deformation)
- Coordinate with tooling or engineering teams for repair or replacement
Production Tracking
- Record:
- Production quantities
- Scrap rates
- Inspection results
- Complete job travelers and quality documentation accurately and on time
Work Instructions & Scheduling
- Read and interpret:
- Blueprints and specifications
- Work instructions
- Production schedules
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all press safety procedures, including guarding and lockout/tagout practices
- Use appropriate PPE for material handling and machine operation
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace aligned with 5S principles
- Adhere to OSHA and internal safety requirements
