PSA – Pressure Sensitive Adhesive, most commonly provided as a self-wound master log. Stockwell Elastomerics applies PSAs to most stock materials as needed. Gaskets and pads with PSA backing are often called “peel and stick”. Other common terms are pressure sensitive tapes and double sided tapes.
Supported or Double Coated Adhesive – This type of PSA is made by coating each side of a thin carrier commonly P.E.T. film with layer of adhesive. When applied to an elastomer, the carrier gives the gasket or pad dimensional stability in the X and Y directions. This is most useful when a gasket has bolt hole patterns.
Transfer Adhesive – This type of PSA in manufactured by applying a thin coat of adhesive on to a release liner. Transfer adhesives have no film support – when applied to an elastomeric, the material and PSA are capable of stretching and bending.
Acrylic PSA to Silicone Materials – Yes we can! Stockwell Elastomerics has several proprietary systems for bonding acrylic PSAs to silicone materials for making silicone gaskets and silicone pads with peel and stick adhesive backings. Acrylics are also applied to PORON® and other opened and closed cell materials.
