The Technical Manufacturing Associate is responsible for the setup, operation, and optimization of CNC waterjet cutting equipment used to fabricate precision elastomer components. This role plays a critical part in Stockwell Elastomerics’ rapid prototyping capability—enabling same-day or next-day delivery of custom silicone gaskets and pads for OEM applications.
You will work with engineering drawings, CAD files, and production schedules to ensure parts meet strict dimensional and performance requirements.
Core Responsibilities
CNC Waterjet Operation
- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC waterjet cutting systems for rubber, silicone, and elastomer materials
- Load and verify cutting programs based on job travelers and CAD data
- Adjust key parameters including:
- Water pressure
- Cutting speed
- Abrasive flow rate
Setup Verification & Process Control
- Confirm machine setup aligns with engineering specifications and tolerances
- Perform first-article inspections prior to full production runs
- Optimize cutting paths to minimize scrap and improve throughput
Inspection & Quality Assurance
- Inspect finished parts using:
- Calipers and micrometers
- Go/No-Go gauges
- Templates or fixtures
- Verify compliance with:
- Engineering drawings
- Customer specifications
- Internal quality standards (AS9100 / ISO 9001)
- Identify and correct defects such as:
- Incomplete cuts
- Kerf taper
- Material deformation
- Out-of-tolerance conditions
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance including:
- Nozzle and orifice replacement
- Abrasive handling and refill
- Catch tank cleaning and debris removal
Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve cutting issues related to:
- Pressure inconsistencies
- Abrasive feed interruptions
- Material-specific cutting challenges
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams for process improvements
Material Handling
- Safely stage, load, and store raw elastomer materials
- Prevent contamination, deformation, or damage to sensitive materials
- Manage scrap and recycling processes
Documentation & Production Control
- Maintain accurate records for:
- Production output
- Scrap and yield
- Quality inspections
- Follow job travelers, work instructions, and scheduling priorities
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all OSHA and plant safety protocols, especially for high-pressure systems
- Use proper PPE for waterjet operation and material handling
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment (5S principles)
Requirements
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or technical certification required
- 2+ years of experience in:
- CNC machining, waterjet cutting, or fabrication (preferred)
- Manufacturing of rubber, plastics, or soft materials (preferred)
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Blueprints and technical drawings
- CAD files and job travelers
- Familiarity with:
- CNC controls and programming basics
- Precision measurement tools
